January 24: Dixieland Dog Rescue Adoption Day - Dixieland Dog Rescue will be holding an adoption day from 11am until 5pm at the Petsmart on Youree Drive in Shreveport. They have a good variety of rescued dogs and cats with current shots, spayed and neutered, and heartworm free. Please note that a $150 tax-deductible donation fee is required for adoption. January 25: Evangeline Trio Concert - The Hurley School of Music at Centenary College will present a concert by the Evangeline Trio in Anderson Auditorium beginning at 3 pm. The Evangeline Trio presents a concert of piano trios by Piazzolla, Turina, and Beethoven's "Archduke." The trio consists of Jenifer Carsillo on violin, Ruth Drummond on cello, and Gay Grosz on piano. For more information contact Candy Maynard at (318) 869-5235.

January 25: World Religion Day - Be part of the celebration from 1pm to 6pm at the Highland Center, 520 Olive Street in Shreveport, of the 10th Annual World Religion Day Shreveport/Bossier. This event is a celebration of religions communications; with panel presentations and displays of the variety of customs, art, music and food that are part of the numerous religions practiced in Northwest Louisiana. This year World Religion Day will welcome more than 17 diverse religious groups who will participate in panel presentations and will visit with the public. The keynote speaker at World Religion Day this year is Lady Carlson, a local organizer for Northern & Central Louisiana Interfaith.

January 26: Free Haircuts - Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) along with Premier Cou-Pate Barber Shop announce this month's free haircuts for youth at Lakeside Recreation Center on Monday, January 26, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The center is located at 2200 Milam Street. The event rotates monthly among the 15 SPAR community centers. The haircuts are free, on a first come, first served basis for children ages 6 to 13. January 27: How to Survive Home Ownership - Three speakers will give insight and tips on how to survive in this real estate market. There will be a real estate broker from REALTY TEAMS speaking on options from buying homes at below market prices to getting your home sold fast and avoiding foreclosure. A mortgage broker will give information on how to remodify your loan for a lower monthly payment and other useful financing tips. In addition. an attorney from a local title complany will give real estate legal advice. This seminar will be held at the Clarion Hotel, 1419 East 70th Street in Shreveport, on January 27 from 6 to 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. January 31: Bowie County Special Olympics Benefit - Texarkana Dart Association and Quincey's Irish Pub are hosting a benefit for Bowie County Special Olympics at 1pm at Quincey's on Stateline Ave. $15.00 per person admission fee covers silent auction, heavy hors'devours, door prizes and raffles. $5.00 dart tournament entry fee. Prizes awarded in lieu of cash. All proceeds benefit Bowie County Special Olympics. Doors will open at 12 noon.
