Kelis Is Loving Life, and Creating New Music: ‘The Record Is Almost Done’

After a decade-long hiatus, Kelis is close to completing her new album, which she describes as a true reflection of herself. The R&B star has been recording on her farm in California and is now 75-80 percent done with the project. The album, which she says sounds like a mix of Wu-Tang and Sade, is a departure from the current music trends and is a genuine representation of her artistic evolution. Kelis, who has had a successful career in music with her hit single, “Milkshake,” and is a celebrity chef, expresses contentment with her life and career. “I’m an extremist,” she says with a laugh. “Either I’m traveling as far away as humanly possible, or I don’t want to go absolutely anywhere, and I want everything to be on the farm.”
