#throwbackthursday
Good morning!! Happy #throwbackthursday! It would be happier, I’m sure, if you won a grand! You can! Make sure you’re listening each hour for the cash word, take it to the website and you’re eligible. Good luck!! So, for #throwbackthursday a little acknowledgement. See the pic above, it’s my second favorite Gladys Knight and The Pips album. Pictured on the cover are , of course, Gladys Knight, Merald ‘Bubba’ Knight, William Guest, and Edward Patten(not related but, I never understood why they were never in the conversation of ‘best family group’ Bubba is her brother, the other Pips are cousins). Not pictured on the cover is Jim Weatherly, he’s not a Pip but, absolutely essential to this album. Of the nine tracks, he wrote or co-wrote five of them, including ‘Midnight Train To Georgia'(originally titled ‘Midnight Plane to Houston’ and first recorded by Whitney Houstons’ mother Cissy) the song that probably cemented him in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Rumor has it that the song came out of a conversation that Weatherly had with actress Farrah Fawcett. Interestingly enough, almost every other significant credits he has are songs by country music artists. The unlikely pairing of Weatherlys’ words and Gladys’ voice almost never happened, he was an NFL prospect at quarterback. Other Weatherly hit’s on the Imagination album include; ‘Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me’ and ‘ Where Peaceful Waters Flow.’ Ok, let’s have the dopest of Thursdays, pour another cup and turn the radio up…..yup.
